All students begin by making a table. Students can put their own spin on the project by making their own design choices such as an end table (with or without a drawer), a sofa table, a coffee table, or a bench. You can add a shelf to a table or make the top live edge.
Students are encouraged to continue in the class and work on new projects.
Hill Institute
14 weeks each term
Tuesdays, 6:00-9:00
This is an advanced class, students must have previous woodworking experience.
Most students in this class are enrolled in the Master Furniture Program. This course of study takes an in depth look at furniture making and design. Students who complete a series of five projects targeting specific skills earn a “Master Furniture Maker” certificate from Hill Institute. For a full course description please contact me via email.
Students will learn to cut mortise & tenon and dovetail joinery by hand. You have the option of learning to carve early American design elements such as shells and fans, as well as learning inlay techniques including sand-shading. Students will learn to use hand tools in this class, but it is not exclusively about using hand tools. Power tools and machinery are also part of the program.
Students who are not enrolled in the Master Furniture Program, may work on a furniture piece of their choice.
