Hard Maple Legs
Quartersawn Maple case
with Tiger Maple Top.
Clematis design on drawer fronts inlaid with Maple Burl, Redwood Burl and Satinwood with burnt-edge shading, Walnut Burl, and Mother-of-Pearl.
My client is an avid gardener, so we decided that the design for the inlay would be some sort of botanical. She narrowed the choices down to three different flowers. After researching each flower, I decided that clematis would lend itself well to the layout of the drawer fronts. I designed the two stems so they would flow across the case front, landing mostly on the drawer fronts, while minimizing the intersections that cross the drawer fronts for visual continuity.
I designed the case to have compartmentalized drawer boxes with side-hung drawer glides, making each drawer removable for convenient use. The top five drawers are for thread storage, the bottom two drawers are for sewing sundries.
